Artist Statement

Wen Tong experiences God when she paints. She feels God move her hand and guide her brush across the canvas. The paintings themselves are the result of divine inspiration. They are visions shown to the artist from a higher source.

When she speaks with skeptics, she realized their non-belief may be justified. They did not have access to these divine encounters and cannot understand their transformative power. Wen realized her belief doesn’t rely on faith but direct lived experiences.

She makes art that expresses the emotions of knowing God is with you. That anyone viewing the painting may have a direct experience. She hopes the art engages the senses of the viewer but beyond that, remind the viewer of their own inner spark. Her oil paintings depict the merging of the mundane and supernatural in a cinematic way. Two worlds are combined in the style of magical realism.
